Welcome to the AAC department at Greenfields Specialist School for Communication.

We believe that education and participation in society depends on the ability to communicate. Communication is the basis of all learning it is a two way process and without communication their can be no education. The ability to communicate is fundamental to a basic quality of life.

We have a policy of total communication every pupil’s communication skills are recognised and valued and developed as an integral part of their education.

The input of families and carers is vital and we aim to give as much advice and support as possible so that we can work together to improve our pupils communication skills.

As natural speech is in many circumstances the ideal mode of communication we will develop each pupils speaking ability to its fullest potential and it is widely recognised that pupils with effective communication systems often develop speech faster than they would have otherwise.

We know our pupils have plenty to say and  we will work with them and their families or carers to put in place a communication system that is tailored to each pupil’s specific needs and to find the most effective way for them to communicate in a given situation.

We aim to make a positive difference to our pupil’s lives by enabling them to have a voice and by valuing what they have to say and this is reflected in all that we do.
