Transitions to new destination
Annually in November, a transitions and community options event is held where local providers are invited to showcase their provisions and answer any questions for parents/ carers and pupils. The event is open to Key stage four and five pupils and their parents/ carers and associated professionals.
Information regarding providers and their open days can be found on 'The Local Offer' website: https://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/councilservices/children-families-education/SEND/local-offer
If additional information is shared with GSSC regarding open days or prospectuses etc. we will also share this with parents/ carers via home school communication books/ text messages.
When pupils are preparing for moving on from GSSC we encourage visits to their confirmed provisions to support familiarisation with new venues and staffing teams, this can be supported by familiar school staff if appropriate. Transitions are discussed at pupils' annual reviews where consideration is given to future provision and targets are linked appropriately. At GSSC we work closely with the social work and 18-25 team to support a smooth transition.
Pupils and their families are able to explore transitions at year 11 and year 13 where pupils can consider other post 16 providers and options following GSSC. In year 11 and 13 pupils and their parents/ carers will have the opportunity to receive independent and impartial careers guidance to support with transitions and decisions regarding future provisions. Our family liaison officer Donna Perry is also available to offer support with transitions.
