Transitions in for new pupils

Year 7 Transition to Greenfields Specialist School for Communication

 Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to welcome you and your child/young person to Greenfields Specialist School for Communication.  Your child/young person will be starting here at GSSC in September 2020.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be continuing our visits to your child/young person’s primary schools, liaising with school staff and other professionals to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. We  shall also arrange for your child/young person to visit GSSC, supported by their existing school staff, before our ‘Transition Days’ in July.

We will be contacting all of our new parents and carers over the coming weeks to arrange a home visit by our new intake Family Liaison Officer (FLO) Amanda Nunn who will be accompanied by one of our Assistant Headteachers (Helen Blight or Claire Frogley) or our Middle Managers (Lynette Park), to complete all of the transfer paperwork and answer any of your questions before your child/young person starts with us in September 2020.

Dates for your Diary:

  • Transition Days (TBC): Monday 6th July and Tuesday 7th July 2020.  Parents/Carers are required to bring their child/young person to GSSC for 9.00am and collect at 3.00pm on both
  • FUN Night (Family Unite Night): Wednesday 20th May 2020 (for pupils with confirmed places for September 2020). School invites parents/carers, to bring their child/young person and family siblings to access school facilities, supported by school staff (further details to follow).
  • ‘Meet the Teacher’ Evening: Wednesday 8th July 2020 starting promptly at 4.00pm. The evening will start with a presentation and you will have the opportunity to meet your child/young person’s new Pastoral Lead, Teaching Staff and get to meet some of our current parents and carers.

To ensure that our Transition Days run as smoothly as possible, we ask that you complete and return any transition paperwork as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you require further information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely

Helen Blight

Assistant Headteacher

Transitions for other mid-year intake pupils

We very rarely have pupils starting with us beyond the beginning of a new academic year.

If you have been allocated a place at GSSC and it is not for a September start, then once all paperwork has been received from the Local Authority and a placement agreed, one of our Assistant Headteachers and our Family Liaison Officer will arrange a home visit to complete all of the transitions paperwork.
