Assessment
GSSC is where the Northamptonshire AAC team is based, and is both an assessment and resource centre. It provides a service of outreach and advice to both mainstream and other special schools in Northamptonshire where there are pupils with severe communication needs.
There is an AAC equipment loan library located at GSSC. Teachers may view and try out resources by arrangement with the schools. Teachers may also loan items of AAC equipment and software for trialing purposes with groups of pupils or classes, or may try out equipment for individual pupils prior to purchase.
GSSC houses the Local Authority’s central AAC assessment base. Most multi-agency assessments will be carried out at this base. There is an AAC assessment equipment library which the multi-agency assessment team can access. This contains more advanced AAC equipment and materials useful for assessment purposes rather than day-to-day classroom use.
We have produced a catalogue of items in our loan library and this is available upon request.
It is incumbent upon any school requesting advice that they involve their Speech and Language Therapist in these arrangements.
